Momento Musings

Priceless Christmas Gifts

The thing that excites me most about Christmas is the anticipation of giving customised gifts. I can confidently say that nothing makes me happier than the grin on a loved one’s face as they unwrap a great gift. It’s the reason I hunt for weeks to find exactly the right personalised presents.

Story Books
I am a self confessed read-a-holic. Some of my fondest childhood memories are from story time and the special little books my Aunt made me filled with customised stories.

Personalised mini photo books are fantastic gifts for kids because they involve the reader and their family. You can easily make your own 10 page mini books by choosing the Small photo book option in the Start section of the Momento software. Use photos of your child or grandchild and don’t forget to use large text for easy reading. You can even decorate your pages with specifically themed embellishments such as Pirate or Fairy Dust.

Why not get really creative and scan in your kid’s drawings, or illustrate your own stories for them. They will love reading these stories back to you and the photo book will forever safe keep moments from their childhood. Don’t forget that small story books aren’t just great presents for kids but they’re convenient to post off to proud, faraway relatives too.

Recipe Books
This Christmas I plan to create a very special recipe book of all my Grandmother’s wonderful recipes, photos and magazine snippets, which I will scan and save as .JPEGs.  I know my mum and sister will love this book full of memories and hopefully it will be passed down one day to her great grandkids and maybe great great grandkids!

To decorate your recipe books, there are some great free recipe embellishment packs in the software. I love the vintage look of the ‘In the Kitchen’ frames and embellishments (below). Another fun part of this project is that you can also do a mini food styling photo shoot with the cooked recipes and then taste test all the yummy food!

A great example of collaborative recipe book is ‘Tea in China’ in which a Mothers’ support network got together and each donated a recipe accompanied by photos of their kids. The beauty of this project is that the photo book acts as a time capsule. Why not make your own with your friends, or family members this Christmas? It would certainly be a unique gift!

To finish off your perfect personalised gift, don’t forget the wrapping. Momento photo books has recently introduced some spanking new Clamshell boxes that really are the icing on the cake. Choose between a Shallow or Deep Clamshell box to perfectly fit your book, and keep it protected for years to come. You can even design it to match your book so all you’ll need to do is put a ribbon on it!
